TEIA & HER 3 TITAS

Aunty Aisha was such a sweetheart and took Teia girl to visit her "titas" grave site while we were visiting home. She told Aunty Aisha that her "titas" are in heaven.

TEIA AT HOME

Teia and I went home unexpectedly two Wednesdays ago. Gramz wasn't expected to make it through the week, so we headed out on the next possible flight. She was admitted to Kaiser with pneumonia and within the week of being there she had a severe heart attack, a stroke (lost ability to swallow and speak), and started bleeding internally. Gramz can't eat at all and she requested years ago to not have any tube feeding or anything that would prolong her life. She's too fragile for surgery or any other procedures, so Gramz is now being cared for at a Hospice center in Ewa. She's a tough cookie! While I spent everyday and night at the hospital with Gramz, my sis, my mom, and aunty....Teia was cared for by her uncle Lionel (my bro in-law)or her aunty Aisha (my best friend since elementary). They kept her busy and she had a blast with her cousins and dog cousins too. She misses them so much. Thank goodness with a lot of support from family....we get to go back next month!

Howard and Olana Ai are kumu hula (hula teachers) back home. One of the best I can honestly say. Howard Ai is also a Lindsey....cousin to dad (Craig's dad). This utube video is a MUST WATCH! The most beautiful hula, the most beautiful mele, the most beautiful voices. The mele (song) was written by them and is sung by them both and it's about a place called Wai'aka in Waimea, Hawai'i. The Lindsey ohana has a resting place there for their loved ones and a lot of family history can be told about the place....including in mele.... like this song sung by Howard and Olana.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BABY GIRL
jAsSy!

I would be a few minutes too late, but it's still 8 pm back home.
oKaY aUnTy...she turned 14....do you really still have to call her "baby girl"?!
HECK YAH!!!
She'll always be my baby girl. If I could steal her from her mom I would! Hee hee!
I can't believe she's 14. I still remember her precious, beautiful baby face.
I took that girl with me every chance I could when she was a baby.
I remember she was just two years old when Craig first met her. She wouldn't let Craig come near me! LOL!! But, she would sing for him in the cutest voice.....
"Keiki o ka 'aina la
Ho'olohe mai Kakou la
I na mo'olelo la
O ka we kahiko"
I'm grateful for the joy Jassy girl has been and is in my life.
I love you Jassy!

GRADUATION.....WHAT WE WERE UP TO

Sorry no pictures. My camera card was lost. I'll post some pics later when my sis sends me copies of her pics. Bare with me ...I know it's a lot to read.

Wednesday

Mom & Robert flew in from Hawai'i! The first of our family to arrive! Exciting! I was so happy that mom's health held up, so she could witness my special day. I was very worried that she wouldn't and shouldn't come with her white blood cell count being low from chemo treatments. However, just days before she was to fly out to Utah....her blood tests revealed that her count was back to normal!! Yes! I still made her wear medical masks on the plane! Poor mom...she had to assure her plane neighbors that she didn't have swine flu. LOL! I was also worried about what she looked like with her "cat" on her head. Mom had to get a wig after her first round of chemo, and I hadn't seen it yet. I was impressed....it looked very similar to her real hair style. Mom and Robert was excited to land in Utah....being only their second trip here.

From the airport we went to RUMBI's! I was excited that they remembered and enjoyed the food there. Of course, how could they forget...it was at Rumbi's...same time last year....that mom got to see her first snow fall! All the crazy Hawaiians (Craig's ohana too) ran in and out of the restaurant to play in the sprinkles of snow. Good times!

For dinner mom wanted to eat at Sizzlers. Still one of her favorite places to eat (minus their steaks). She and I enjoyed the salad bar...of course NOTHING like Sizzlers salad bars back home...but oh well. Teia insisted on sitting next to her Grannie.

Wednesday night dad and mom Lindsey arrived! Yeah! I always love seeing them. How was Teia going to act now...two grandmas to spoil her. I spent the rest of the night bugging my mom about whether or not my sis was going to surprise me and come to my graduation. I finally came to the conclusion that my mom really didn't know because maybe my sis was afraid that she would "spill the beans." My mom thought I was crazy and went to bed.

Craig and I stayed up trying to figure out if Mel was coming. We analyzed over and over different conversations we had with family members and different possible scenarios for her possible "SURPRISE" arrival. Then I got smart....I'll call her office and her machine will say..."You've reached the office of Melanie Silva. Sorry, but I'll be out of the office from.....Thursday April 30th til......" then I'll know for sure! Nope! It had the usual greeting. Okay...I know...we'll send her an email to her job and we'll get a reply back saying "Out of office reply." Nope! Never got an email back. Okay...I'll call her house...then I'll know! Lionel (my bro in-law) answers and tells me that Mel's out with her friend Cui and the kids "should be in bed." Hmmmm.....out with Cui and it's almost 9 pm......and Mel works tomorrow. Craig and finally decided at almost 2 am Thursday that we over analyzed the different conversations we had (that led us to our suspicions of her coming) and that she couldn't possibly be coming (for certain reasons). So we went to bed.

Thursday

Woke up to my cell phone ringing. It's Mel. Oh no! What's wrong with Grandma?

Me: Mel
Mel: Hey, you're BIG package is at the airport. Can you come pick it up?
Me: What?
Mel: I'm at the airport. Can you get me?
Me: What? Not!
Mel: I'm tired and I'm cold. Can you come get me?
Me: Get back in the airport.
Mel: I am in the airport! It's cold!
Me: You're not at the airport...I can't hear airport noises??
Mel: It's quiet here.
Me: Are you foreal? You're at the airport! (my emotions finally kickin' in)
Me: Oh my gosh! Kay, I'm coming in pajamas is that okay. Craig and I are coming now! (good thing gramma and papa Lindsey took the kids to the hotel for a sleep over). We should be there in 40 minutes!

I wanted to open my apt door and scream as loud as I could. My whole body was rushing with extreme excitement. Like I had just won a million dollars! I had! My sis was here! Her first trip to Utah ever! She was coming to MY graduation! We get to SHOP together for her temple clothes! My sister was HERE IN UTAH!!! I told Craig no time for brushing teeth.....chew gum and lets go! We zoomed there as fast as we could! I was EXTREMELY thrilled to greet my sister at the cold and quiet airport. Poor girl hadn't slept at all...red eye flight from Honolulu. She explained to me that her hunny and mom in-law were the only two people that knew. She didn't even tell the kids until the night she was leaving. Poor thing.

Okay so Mel is here! Mel and the family go to Kimani's school program. He had a part in the show, and family to share this moment with. How special. I zoomed off to the airport for the 3rd time in 24 hours to pick up my 3rd mom and family (Mel's in-laws). How lucky! All three of my moms (and families) and my SIS came to share this special accomplishment with me!

We spent the rest of the day hanging out together, SHOPPING with my sis, BBQing, and the older folks sang karaoke all night. I took Mel and Ronnie boy (also baptized last year) up to the Provo temple to get pictures. They loved it! Mom Ho (3rd mom) sat in the Jeep singing gospel music at the top of her lungs...hoping no one could hear her!

Christy and the kids made the drive over from Idaho! I was so happy they could make it and celebrate with me! It's always extra special to have the cousins together. They get along well (no referee needed), have lots of fun, and stay up later then the adults. BTW....they're 8, 6, 5, and 3 and they party it up.

The night before graduation...it was past 11pm and I zoomed to Wally world (Wal-Mart) to get nylons (how could I forget?) and take Willie and Ronnie shopping. They only brought warm clothes and was dying of heat.

Friday!

Graduation day! Oh happy day! Wow! I had wardrobe malfunctions before even heading out the door! My graduation cap kept falling off my head and my nylons kept rolling down my legs. I gave the good pair I bought to my sis who also forgot about nylons and she's 10 times thinner then me! I had to wear the junk pair (knee highs) that were too big for me that I bought by accident. Ugghh. I couldn't even get to the truck without having to stop and fix those darn things. The family found it amusing!

Graduation commencement was AMAZING! The best feeling was walking out from the underground tunnel into the McKay with thousands of people looking at you as you marched between the lined up professors looking at you with the biggest smiles. The air was so cool and although I was among thousands of other graduates...I felt like this was MY MOMENT!! I loved that feeling! As I marched ahead ....I could see him! President Monson! He was there with his sweet wife standing up looking at us graduates march in. COOLEST! My sister and Ronnie get to see President Monson in person! Rare thing for new converts living in Hawai'i. I kept waving to my ohana! I loved looking back at them and waving with excitement!

How special it was to see the prophet get honored at MY graduation! He and his wife were the Honorary Degree Recipients at our graduation...the first graduating class as UVU....the biggest graduating class in school history as well! President Monson spoke to us graduates about glancing backward, reaching outward, and pressing forward. Truly a prophet of the Lord. Let me tell you how good it felt to be able to clap as long as I wanted and as loud as I wanted for the prophet! Very rare do we get the opportunity being we most often only see and hear from him in reverence. The whole events center repeatedly stood up for him, clapped for him, and cheered for him. Okay...and one graduate did pass out and was carried away. The whole First Presidency was there to witness our graduation. That was special!

After commencement we headed to convocation, so I could get my diploma! I got "lei-d" before heading into convocation. It felt so good to be in Utah graduating, but still have the culture of Hawai'i with me. Special! Special! Even more special! My mommy brought 10 leis from Hawai'i for me to give to all my special friends that helped me survive the nursing program. I loved being able to share my culture with them! The excitement of the day and hours of graduation was starting to wear on everyone. Thank you to my ohana and Sarah for hanging in there! Thank you tons to the Kaufusi's who made candy leis....the family ate them during graduation to hold them up through the hours. hee hee! The tears finally came when my name was said and I marched up stage to get my diploma. The dean of nursing was trying to talk to me about my leis as she touched them in admiration...and I couldn't speak a word to her. Then the dean of College of Science and Health took a picture with me and I can't even remember ever seeing a camera to smile at. My tears blinded my sight and washed out my brain. Then when I approached the end of the stage....there was my dad (in-law) standing with his camera to snap the first shot with me holding my diploma. I smiled big! Then I saw my family standing directly above me and I flashed the proud shaka! I was SO STINKIN' HAPPY!!!

After graduation we went home to kill some time before dinner. I was surprised that I had gifts and cards to open. I thought the lei's and the family was present enough! I'm so lucky! I got really special gifts, special cards with special words, songs, and special recordings that brought me to tears. And of course KALA (money)!

I refused to have a graduation luau and told Craig don't even think about throwing me a surprise one. Thank goodness...I think it was too much work and money for him to pull off. I just wanted to go to Tucanos to celebrate. The best restaurant! The family REALLY ENJOYED it. The first time for most of them! They're still talking about the yummy Brazilian food. Then most of the family headed to Fat Catz to bowl, shoot pool, and play games. Some of the ladies went....SHOPPING.

Saturday

The guys already had it planned out that we weren't going to involve them in our shopping plans. They guys went to see Xmens Wolverine. The ladies went SHOPPING! We went to look for Mel's temple dress and white clothes for the rest of her family. When we were done with that we had to head to Joanns (craft store) for some ribbon Mel needed. And now I have to share the following story.

So we pull into Joanns parking lot and I look for a handicap parking spot cause Mom Ho had a handicap parking pass. We spocked one out...cool! I'm getting ready to turn right into the lane that had the handicap stall...which BTW was all the way down the other end of the lane. So anyone could've got there before we did. So I'm getting ready to turn right....I had the right away....and a car headed down towards me wanted to turn right too...the driver was old and I thought I'd be nice and let her turn down the lane first. So I motioned for her to go ahead of me. She motioned back for me to go ahead of her ( I had the right away anyway...there was no need for me to stop for her). So I went ahead and as soon as I made the turn down the lane I saw a flashback of the ladies handicap pass hanging from her review mirror. I immediately thought, "Oh no! She needs that handicap stall too!" BTW...still someone else could've got to the stall before us if they were turning down the end it was closest too. So I'm thinking oh we need that stall and she needs that stall and she's old. Poor thing! I pull in and keep telling the family in my car (mommy, Mel, mom (in-law) and mom Ho & Teia too)...."Oh, but she's old!" Anyways, they all get out of the car and I'm feeling bad that we got the handicap stall first and we watch the lady STRUGGLE to park. She came inches from side swiping the car next to her. The old lady finally parks and comes out of her car. I'm half hiding in the truck, but trying to get Teia out SLOWLY....feeling bad and not wanting to see the ladies face...and cracking up laughing at the situation. Every one's out of the car except me and Tei. And the OLD LADY DARED! She comes walking over to our stall and tells everyone standing there...."I let you go and you took my spot!" WHAT LADY??? Mom Ho says something back like this, "Yah, and you did a terrific job parking your car! Good job!" I was just shocked at what that lady said! First lady, we had the right away to turn FIRST (she truly didn't let us go). Second, anyone could've got to that stall before either of us. Third, what makes her handicap better (worse) that she could have the stall over mom Ho. Fourth, why is it HER spot! I'm telling you! I just felt bad because she was old and I knew she wanted to park there too. Mom Ho said if the old lady said anything more she would said back ..."I didn't see your name on the parking spot lady!" LOL!!!! What a memory!

So SHOPPING, MORE SHOPPING. BTW...the guys did do some shopping of their own. They got spoiled by Willie (Mel father in-law) at the Fanzz store. They got Lakers jerseys and Tshirts. I took the ladies to Cafe Rio! I was so excited to take them there that it was MY TREAT! Mom Lindsey has been there a few times and loves that place too. Saturday night we headed to the hotel pool and enjoyed some delicious chocolate cake from Cold Stone.

Sunday

We literally had to speed up to SLC to take the family to Music & the Spoken Word. Mom Ho said I was doing 90 mph. They must see the Morman Tabernacle Choir sing in person! Then we took the family around Temple Square. I still couldn't get over the blessing of having my sister in the gospel and seeing her appreciate Temple Square the way we do. Willie had fun making new friends and talking to everyone. Truly a man with the "Aloha spirit." After temple square we headed to the Sports Grill and Bar at the Gateway for lunch. It was Mom Ho's last meal in Utah and she wanted American food. They have ono food! Ever try the Monster Burger? It can seriously feed 6 people! Poor Kimani and Ronnie who decided to share the burger...they looked overwhelmed with the task. Then we took Mel SHOPPING! Notice a theme yet? My family was always shopaholics (thanks to mom). My sis has carried that tradition on. I knew she would enjoy the Gateway. Ki played in the Olympic water show as always. It was fun to have my sis make the move from the hotel to my apt. The kids got to hang with Aunty Mel! Mel, Tei and I had a slumber sleep in the living room.

Monday

Robert and mommy wanted to go the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point. We had fun taking the kids around the museum and taking them to the IMAX dinosaur show. It was so good that everyone except Kimani fell asleep! We had lunch at their cafe...which Mel and I wasn't feeling to good about. We thought...the hotdogs should be the safest thing to eat. BOY WERE WE WRONG!!! Don't eat there. I'll tell you why in a second. After the museum we did some SHOPPING and then we headed to the Olive Garden for dinner. Another first for Mel. Before we could finish our meal...Mel was hit with sudden and SEVERE abdominal cramping. She was about to pass out and she was sweating. She ended up spending her first trip to the Olive Garden in the bathroom with FOOD POISONING!! Yes! Those hotdogs from the cafe at the Dinosaur museum. Well it would take even a longer story to explain how we knew it was that. Just take our word for it.

Monday night we hung out with my family...enjoying the last hours with them.

GRADUATION....WRAPPING IT UP

Everyone was gone by Tuesday. The tears were limited...LUCKY FOR ME.....I'll see my family next month! I get to attend the sealing of my sis and her family on the Big Island...Kona Temple.
I was a little bummed dropping off the car rental though. It's easy to get attached to the Jeep Commander when you're the chauffeur and the owner of a little Nissan Frontier for 8 years. The commander rides a lot smoother then our truck and there's room for 7-8 people. We're still wondering how Willie managed to squeeze his "okole" in the back seat which had absolutely no leg room (only enough for Tei's legs to dangle from her carseat...seriously...no exaggeration). My sis had "okole cramps" from sitting back there with Tei. Willie you're incredible!
I had the best graduation! The best gift was having my family and friends there to share this moment with Craig and I. The bestest, bestest gift was having my sister there with me!! The bestest, bestest, bestest gift was the memories we made during the days we had family in town. The bestest, bestest, bestest, bestest gift is having their continued love and support to get me through yet another HUGE goal....studying for and passing the NCLEX! I'm not an RN until I pass the state exam.
Truly...Craig and I and our na keiki couldn't have survived these past 4 1/2 years without God, family, and friends. Heavenly Father TRULY blessed our lives each and everyday. From the littlest blessings to the biggest...we saw His hand in our lives EVERYDAY. There are specific classes, tests, situations, needs met etc., that I can think back on with true awe and amazement in the realization that there was no possible way I could've done that on my own. Only with the love and help of my Heavenly Father. It was His evident blessings that allowed me to accept that I had chosen the right career path even though I'm not the smartest cookie in the jar. It was his love and blessings that got our family through each day.
Our ohana supported us all the way long with their love, encouragement, faith in us, PRAYERS in our behalf, phone calls, letters, visits to Utah, and financial support so we could visit them (and many other reasons). They even put up with the days..sometimes weeks...that we didn't seem to exist on the planet. The unconditional love and support from our ohana was and is INCREDIBLE. We share our accomplishments with them...for without them...there is no dreams come true.
Our friends (neighbors, ward family, school buddies, friends made along the way). Where can I start?! They took the place of our family for immediate needs and support. The hardest thing for Craig and I was to depend on others to help us with our children and to bail us out of unexpected situations (there were many). I know with all my heart that the Lord puts people in our path for a reason. WHENEVER we needed someone or something to help us along the way....there was ALWAYS someone offerring or willing to help our little family...with OPEN ARMS, a SMILE, and LOVE for US. Even if it was at the VERY LAST MINUTE. I'm overwhelmed with love and joy for our FRIENDS and the SERVICE they gave us. Our school buddies made the journey fun and worth it! Mine had to put up with me period...THANK YOU! We laughed together, cried together, grumbled together, ATE together (best lunch buddies), encouraged one another, and accomplished together. I couldn't have survived the UVU Nursing experience without them! I learned something from each of them and love them dearly for it!
Back to the books!

TEARS ON MY PILLOW

pOoR dAnNy! PoOr Me! Never in the bottom 3....then KABOOM......sent home! ELIMINATED! He didn't have to win.....I would've been satisfied watching him in the finale with the excitement and passion for singing that is always felt on those last two nights.
Thank goodness my sweet hunny brought me home beautiful and sweet smelling roses to cheer me up today.
Gramz and Mom not doing well (health wise-gramz in hospital with pneumonia and had a heart attack today and mom had to take cancer tests again to see if it's staying away or coming back) and Teia being stubborn and yes i'll say it...NAUGHTY.
Then Danny sent home. Boo hoo! I guess if I have to compare the two of my favorites to find a reason for Danny's departure....Kris's singing and choice of songs is more current. Danny's choice of songs and style (dancing too) was a little outdated. I'm a sucker for raspy voices...so I can't wait to see where Danny goes after AI life.
Teia just told me..."I hope you feel better mom."
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow to see those beautiful roses and smell them too!
Maybe there won't be tears on my pillow after all.

A MUST HAVE!

Ladies! You must! Sarah and Wes bought me a gift bag full of aromatherapy "goodies" for graduation. I know spoiled! This hand soap is the first thing I tried. Stress Relief Hand Soap "Tranquil Mint." OH MY GOSH!!! I'm going to purchase more!!! I think I'll always need this soap. It makes your hands feel wonderful and the SMELL is just WONDERFUL!! I can't stop sniffing my hands. I wish my whole bathroom could smell like my hands! Makes me want to relax in a plush white robe (if I had one...hint...hint...honey). Can't wait to try out my bath wash, body lotion, hand lotion, and candle (assorted scents)!

"24" OUR ADDICTION

The Andrews (Shane & Amy) and the Blacks (Dan & Kim) got us started on "24." These guys wouldn't come hang out with us for our weekly BBQ (good ole' Pioneer apt. days) because they wanted to watch their addiction "24" together. So each week we would see the Andrews march up the stairs into the Blacks apt. and they would never come out. Finally, Craig and I asked about their show.....must be good if they don't want to hang out with us. hee hee. The Andrews swore we would get addicted if we watched. So we borrowed the Andrew's Season 1 of 24 on DVD. Oh are we so glad! Peer pressure has us addicted!
We had to watch season 1-3 on DVD to get caught up and we would LITERALLY watch "24" ALL DAY. Shame to admit. We would get up and have breakfast then start our "24" and watch it until 4am the next day (stopping only for meals, bathroom, and Kimani's needs). After each hour we would say, "K, last one!" But we couldn't stop and would go on for more hours. We did this for a few days out of the week. Lucky from me I didn't work.
We found it pretty amusing that our Stake Pres. (BYU 11th Stake) admitted at the pulpit that he was also addicted to "24." He said he would take past episodes on his family vacations and watch it.
Anyways, we're lovin' another season of "24." Craig and I both agree that this has been the BEST season (season 7). You should always expect the unexpected with this show...even though you don't know what the unexpected could possibly be! We're still in shock about Tony! And Jack...could he possibly die? I can't bare the possibility that this might be the last season! Does anyone know? The intensity of this show makes you nauseated at times...you can barely stand it! It's like watching BYU and Utah (football) battle it out to the last seconds. Okay, maybe not! "24" is WAY MORE intense!
P.S. If you don't know Jack....you should get to know Jack!

BYU GRADUATION

Our family was so happy to attend BYU graduation to support Wes & Sarah and Julene (Teni). Lucky for us Sarah & Julene graduated from the same college of Health and Human Performance. Wes (Math Major) was able to walk with Sarah. It was so special to see husband and wife graduate together! We've lived next to each other for most of our college days, so it was such a sweet and emotional day to realize their accomplishments. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR FAVORITE COUGARS!!
WE LOVE YOU!
A year ago Sarah said she wished to have a lei when she graduated. I was so happy to make her wish come true!

PINKALICIOUS

Tei has discovered
"PINKALICIOUS!"

Teia's favorite color has always been pink. It's the first color she could recognize and pronounce too! If you allow her to choose something...it will ALWAYS be pink! Well gramma (Lindsey) sat down with Tei at Deseret Book Store recently and read to her "Pinkalicious." The girl is now addicited to the word! I'm about to change her name to "pinkalicious!" Too add to this story.....we were shopping at the Gateway and Tei's shoes were hurting her feet. So Aunty Mel wanted to buy Tei some new slippers she saw at the Gap. Aunty Mel and I tried our hardest to convince Tei to get another color (other then Pink), but Tei insisted on "Pinkalicious!" So, that's what aunty bought her. When she heads out the door now she says, "Where's my pinkalicious?"
I love my "pinkalicious" girl!

BRAGGING

Okay, yes I'm going there! I've been an AI addicted fan since day one of AI. I love this show! I wake up Tuesday mornings thinking, "American Idols on tonight!" Okay. The bragging part! With 9 contestants left I predicted both the top 4 and the top 3! I told my hunny...."Top 3 WILL be Danny, Adam, and Kris. Top 4 WILL be Danny, Adam, Kris, and Allison." His response was..."Really! You think Kris huh? Hmmm..." I said, "Yes Kris! You watch!" I was confident!

I still ain't an Adam fan , but he dares to be very different and it works. He's in my personal category with Fantasia and Taylor Hicks and they both won AI. So, I'll have to brace my myself and prepare for the worst. BTW...Craig loved both Fantasia, Taylor, and now Adam. So you see our tastes are VERY DIFFERENT! But hmmmm.....how successful have Fantasia and Taylor been. They put on a "show" to win AI, but the real America (not just AI watchers) didn't care much for their singing. Evidence being....no awards. Fantasia has been nominated for a Grammy for her part in BROADWAY, but hasn't won anything. Taylors got nothing period! No nominations, no awards! Adam's got a little more going on for himself then Fantasia and Taylor though. I do wish him success (for my hunny and Sarah's sake too-they can't wait to listen to Adam's first album), I just ain't a fan.

Who's going to win AI? I dunno! I hope it's Danny or Kris. This blog was just intended to brag about my ACCURATE predictions.

Dandelions??

Ki's teacher wanted the class to practice writing a letter with a greeting, body, closing, and signature. She asked the students to pretend they were Dandelions that flew away and write about it. Ki told himself, "Dandelions??" He didn't like the suggested idea, so this is what he chose to do.....

Dear Mom and Dad,

When Teia and I were playing, Teia threw me up to space! Now I am living on Mars with green space aliens. p.s. Please ground Teia

your lost son,

Kimani
