MY BASKETBALL STAR

Kimani has been playing city league basketball for the Lakeview "Nets." HE LOVES BASKETBALL!! He's TOTALLY into the game when he's playing. We love watching his skills improve with each game. I'd like to take credit for his skills by reminding Craig that I played basketball in high school. However, I know it's a Lindsey thing. The Lindsey boys are good basketball players. The pictures were taken by our really good friend Fritz...Fritz Photography.

CHINA

This morning I was helping Tei dig through her "dress up" basket. She wanted her Cinderella dress...of course. As we're digging through her fun girly things... this is the tiny, but shocking conversation we had...

Mom: Tei! You have alot of really cute bracelets!

Tei: I know! They come from CHINAs!

WHAT??????

Oh my dad was probably sighing in the spirit world. I can remember as long as dad was living he would always look for things that WASN'T made in China. Dad would complain, "EVERYTHING'S MADE IN CHINA!" Well dad died in 93', so he doesn't know how bad things are now. How dumb the businessmen of America are for taking so much business to China. America depends on China now. I'm not sure how Tei knows everythings made in China, but she gave me a good laugh!

KRUSH

Krush WAS the name of our turtle. We've only had him for a few months, and yesterday Ki found him dead. So sad. Don't worry....the kids are just fine. Niether one of them seemed to be affected by his death. I'm the only sad one. Believe or not...turtles do have personalities. My "Krush-e" liked me. He would get excited everytime I peeped my head around the wall to check up on him. Teia tried her best to comfort her momma. It was the cutest thing. She was worried about how her mommy was feeling. Ki could careless. He said, "Hey! Let's crack the shell open and make turtle soup!" I thought....he's so his Uncle! No offense Uncle Jeff...that thought came with a smile. Craig says, "Let's go get another one." Nice thought, but we don't know why Krush-e passed away. It's very possible that something in the tank killed him. I'm not taking chances. Well...don't have to worry about the owners kicking us out for breaking our contract. Do you think we'll see our pets in the celestial kingdom? Don't worry...I won't be devastated if I don't ever see Krush-e again. But, there are some pets in our lives that become just like our family members. Like my dog growing up....Oliver "Boo Boo" Langley. He was very much a family member. I would love to see him in the celestial kingdom! Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm.......

OLD SKOOL DEDICATIONS

Okay! This might be far out in left field. But, it has special meaning to me. Remember high school days when we used to write notes or write messages in each other's yearbooks? Well, almost always we included a song dedication with our message. It was the thing to do! We loved reading what song was dedicated to us! Okay! I was sitting at the computer doing a case study on a cancer patient. Depressing....thinking of my mom who is diagnosed with a similar type of cancer...peritoneal cancer. I decided I would play some CD's on my computer to cheer me up...music always does. I put in Carrie Underwood....of course...she's an AI winner...season 4. I played her song "Jesus Take the Wheel" over and over. I couldn't help, but think of a dear friend...Jerilyn. She had that song as a ring tone for her phone for awhile. Well...one beautiful, sunny, fresh air day in Hawaii....I was visiting home....my sister put in Carrie's CD and "Jesus Take the Wheel" played over and over. I came to tears as I was home (my real home) thinking about the special people in my life that I've come to love back in Utah. I thought of Jerilyn and thought that I couldn't handle the day I would have to say goodbye to her (if we ever left Utah). I thought about how much I loved her and how grateful I am to her for a zillion reasons. Just to name two...she's a STRONG woman with a generous heart. We've watched and stoodby eachother through life's trials and survived Provo life around the 800/880 North block=0)

I would like to let many others in my life know how much I love them. I'm going to start blogging some "OLD SKOOL" dedications to my dearest and beloved.

Here's to bringing back old traditions!

To: Jerilyn Anderson (Metler)
Luv: Meliss
Song: Jesus Take the Wheel
Message: Thank you for MANY years of support, love, fun, tears, memories, lessons learned, late nights, trials endured, okay...gossip, most of all...examples of the strength of a woman. I love you!

3 YRS.OLD WITH A MIND OF A 5 YEAR OLD

The kids had a dentist appt. yesterday before school got out, so I had to take Kimani out of school early. Teia and I got Kimani from class and we headed out the school doors. We got outside and bumped into about ten 5th graders (boys & girls) in the parking lot on a VERY QUIET sunny afternoon. One 5th grade girl said, "Hi Kimani!" Kimani responded, "Hi!" Teia quickly responds, "OOOHHH Kimani got a girrrlfriend!" "OOOHHH Kimani got a girrrlfriend!" I about died! Kimani and I started laughing so hard! We were both laughing in shock that our little 3 year old just shouted those words out loud (it echoed across campus too). How does her 3 year old mind comprehend such things. She responded so quickly too. I thought...that's something a 5 year old would do to embarrass their sibiling. She would've done a very good job at embarrassing her 2nd grade brother in front of a bunch of 5th graders. However, this picture truly tells their personalities. Teia is a wild and fun girl with 'no shame'. Kimani is easy going and loves his sister so very much. When Teia is wild and naughty....Ki just laughs because he thinks his sister is just so cute. I LOVE THESE KIDS!!!

YOU KNOW YOU FROM HAWAII WHEN....

You can understand and speak PIDGIN...
You go to dinner and 'make one plate' with all the extra food leftover.
You automatically take off your shoes in people's homes.
You eat rice every single day.
You say, 'shave ice' or 'ice shave'.. big island style...not' snow cones'.
You know what ukus are and have had them at least once before when you was one little keiki.
You know you aren't supposed to whistle at night time, cross your chopsticks, or stick your fork straight out of your rice.
You eat Arare.
You know what 'tutu' means.
It's SHOYU, not soy sauce.
You know that sushi means sushi, not RAW FISH!
You eat malasadas.
You have a billion pairs of slippers in front your door when your family gets together.
You eat portuguese sausage, eggs, and rice for breakfast.
You know why there are alphabets on trees on graduation day.
You know what 'stink eye' is; and how to give it.
You give directions using mauka and makai.
You say 'Brah' not 'Bro'.
You know what 'Morgan's Corner ' is ... (And it still scares you!)
You call it 'saimin' not 'Top Ramen'.
The surf report is on your speed dial...
You have said 'wat, owe you money?', 'karang your alas', or 'dakine'.
You eat mango with shoyu, vinegar, and pepper.
You like ume, daikon, and kim chee better than pickles
You never understood why adding pineapple and ham to a pizza made it Hawaiian to the rest of the world.
You have a separate circuit breaker for your rice cooker.
You measure the water for the rice by the knuckle of your index finger.
The condiments at the dinner table are shoyu, ketchup, chili peppah watah, kimchee, takuwan, Hawaiian salt and pickled onion.
You call everyone older than you 'Aunty' or 'Uncle' even though they aren't related to you.
Your philosophy is 'Bumbai'.
You are barefoot in most of your elementary school pictures.
Your only suit is a bathing suit.
You drive barefoot.
You feel guilt leaving a get-together without helping clean up.
The only time you honk your horn is once a year during the safety check.
You can live and let live with a smile in your heart.
Your cousin is Japanese-Chinese- French-Filipino- Korean-Scottish- Portuguese- Hawaiian, plus some stuff too manini to mention.
You watch your favorite shows 'on top the TV'.
An approaching hurricane means only one thing! Surf's up, brah!
'You like beef' has nothing to do with what's for dinner

"LET'S GO WARRIORS!!" Why was I the only one in my family shouting these words? Yet, the only one who didn't get a picture with Coach Wilton...head coach for the UH Men's Vollyball team. Cougar fans, huh?
